What is Detoxing and why do I need to do it?

Toxins are everywhere. In our food, water, the air we breathe, everyday products we use from lipstick to body scrubs. Our bodies absorb these toxins and build up in vital organs. We were created with this in mind and we have mechanisms in our body to deal with these heavy loads of toxins. Our main detoxifying system or metabolizing system (breaking things down) is done primarily through the Liver and the Kidneys. Although we are so uniquely made these organ systems can get overburdened and sluggish and not function at a 100%. When this happens you can feel a lack of energy and develop brain fog! When the body lacks energy the brain takes control and subconsciously you eat because that is the main source of getting energy, through nutrition. Usually refined sugars (candy, cookies, Twinkies, brownies etc.) are craved. Why? Because, refined sugars provides the body with quick fuel, glucose that is used to make energy or ATP. The problem is, you keep eating and eating yet you still feel tired and not energized. You can develop insulin resistance. The job of insulin is to take sugar into to the cell. With insulin resistance this process dose not happen. And the sugar gets deposited instead into your fat cells throughout our body along with other toxins that continue to accumulate. So what’s a girl to do? Do you eat more cookies or take a nap?

To metabolize, the process of breaking things down can best be described as the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Good, we need to metabolize things introduced to the body so that the body can use it for cell function and the body eliminates what is not needed. The Bad, the process gets overburden and we have no energy and gain weight among other things. The Ugly, is when our body cannot clear these bad metabolites or toxins that have formed. As these toxins build up they create hormonal imbalances, damage brain chemistry and can cause chronic diseases and cancer.

Detoxing helps the liver clear the body of the bad metabolites and toxins. It is recommended to detox twice a year by experts with the American Academy of Anti aging Medicine. There are simple actions to re-energize and detox your body.

Detoxing does not mean taking a laxative and cleaning out your colon. Cleaning out your colon is a good idea before starting a detox program but by itself it is not detoxing. You have to clean or detoxify the liver.
